Although there has been much hype concerning the influence that movement of free agents like LeBron James has on a basketball championship, bookmakers and player’s alike would probably agree that the current championship match up of Celtics vs Lakers will be the result of team play.  If internet gambling trends are indication, this may be the new thing to watch.

New Jersey is trying to put life back into the diminishing gambling revenues of the casinos in Atlantic City.  The state is trying to increase the revenue by discussing the ability to gamble online and bet on sports.  There will be a vote to put a proposal into force in autumn. Some legislators are against a bill of the nature and do not want to promote the use of casinos online. The politicians have also put together their own preferences regarding the issue to try to cash in on the benefits.

The Casino Association of New jersey prefers not to have a law that allows gambling on the internet but is still considering the possibility of allowing this and the benefits it may hold. Voters will decide if the federal law should be overturned in the state. Many voters will also submit their opinions on their gambling preferences and what they would like to see take place. There opinions will be collected to decide whether expansion of gambling is ideal or not.

World Team Poker and the Fox Sports Network (FSN) have announced plans to join forces to broadcasting the next international team-based contest. The decision will bolster poker’s continuing attempts to attain credibility as a sport.

The debut of World Team Poker (WTP) was at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas last month. The first broadcast is scheduled for mid-July.

For the uninitiated, WTP is truly a team sport. Teams are accompanied by coaches, substitutions, team captains and bench players. The WTP is unique in that it is brings poker into the realm of professional team sports like the NFL, NBA or MLB. Players in WTP compete with others from around the globe for “pride, passion and country”.

The first WTP event, due to be broadcast on July 14^th, saw teams from 20 countries each bringing $50,000 to the table as they battled for the prize of $400,000.

According to the hype, the 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the most widely-watched sporting event the world has ever seen. The 64 matches will see more than 30 different countries battling it out – all of which can be seen in the three daily broadcasts and extensive internet coverage.
