While the game requires a bit of luck it is those who can master the strategic side of Texas Hold’em who will succeed overall and be a long term winning player.
The Basics of Texas Holdem
Texas Hold’em begins after both the small blind and big blind have been paid. Big blinds are equal to the minimum bet at the table at the small blind is equal to half the minimum bet. The small blind is placed by the player sitting left of the dealer, which is determined by the dealer chip. At this stage all other players have the option to blind into the hand or they may make raise.
Dealing of the Flop
All players will be dealt two cards face down. There is a specific order starting with the player who is the small blind with the last player to receive cards is the player on the big blind. After the cards have been dealt all players will be able to place a bet or check their hand. Should a wager be placed those players still in hand may call, fold or raise. This will complete the first round of betting and will commence another community card to be dealt.
Dealing of the Turn
The turn card is dealt after the first round of betting has been completed. The dealer will deal one card called the “Burn” card and then will deal the turn card. This commences another round of betting.
Dealing of the River
The river card is dealt upon completion of the previous round of betting from the turn card. The dealer will deal a burn card and then deal the ricer card. Players remaining in the hand will have the option for a final round of betting. At that point those in the hand will show their hole cards in what is commonly called the showdown. The player with the best hand will win the pot. Should two players have hands of equal value they will split the pot.
